Ingredients
Fenugreek Seeds – 1 tablespoon
Rice – ½ cup, rinsed
Grated Coconut – 2 tbsp
Jaggery – 1–2 teaspoon, or as required
Cardamom Powder – 1/4 tsp
Water – 2–3 cups, or as required
Coconut Milk – ½ cup, optional

Preparation
- Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it for around 15–20 minutes.
- Rinse the fenugreek seeds and soak them separately for a few hours or overnight. Drain the water before cooking.
- Add the soaked rice and fenugreek seeds to a pot with water. Cook over medium heat until the rice becomes soft and the fenugreek seeds are thoroughly cooked.
- Once cooked, gently mash the mixture to achieve a soft and porridge-like consistency.
- Add grated coconut, jaggery, cardamom powder and a small pinch of salt. Mix well and cook for another 2–3 minutes.
- Add coconut milk if desired and stir gently. Avoid boiling for too long after adding the coconut milk.
- Serve warm and enjoy as part of a nourishing meal.
Things to Remember
- The amount of fenugreek can be adjusted according to individual taste and tolerance, as it has a naturally strong and slightly bitter flavour.
- You can adjust the consistency by adding more warm water or coconut milk according to your preference.
- Jaggery can be adjusted or omitted depending on your dietary requirements.
- Coconut milk can be replaced with another suitable milk option if preferred.
- This porridge is best enjoyed warm and freshly prepared.
- If you prefer a smoother texture, blend or mash the cooked porridge before serving.
- Postnatal dietary needs can vary from person to person. Ingredients and quantities should be adjusted according to individual preferences, dietary requirements, and professional guidance.
- If you are following a personalised postnatal diet plan, consult your Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare professional regarding the ingredients and foods that are best suited to your individual needs.
